Many persons, men and women start resenting unwanted hair from the time of adolescence. Many men and women are obsessed with getting rid of hair, whether it is in the armpits, upper lips, legs or face. There are many ways to get rid of unwanted hair, but very few methods of permanent removal.
The modes of hair removal range from cheap and simple (shaving) to expensive and cutting-edge (laser hair removal). Such hair removal methods are suitable for every part of the body, every budget and every skin type.
Here are some of the leading methods of hair removal:
Shaving:
It is the most common method. It is also temporary. Shaving cuts away the hair at the surface of the skin. But, as opposed to popular belief, shaving does not make the hair shaft, darker or thicker. It does not make hair grow slower or faster.
But it does cause hair to grow with a blunt tip instead of a tapered and natural tip, which makes the hair assume prominence. Get a more effective shave by first moisturizing the skin. Body wash, hair conditioner and shaving cream help a razor glide smoothly over the skin and helps prevent scrapes, cuts and nicks.
Bleaching:
It is not a hair removal method but reduces the noticeability of hair. It is a particularly useful for thin but dark hair in places like neck, face and arm. Bleach is applied to the desired area and removes pigments from hair.
Physical Methods:
An inexpensive and common mode of hair removal is physical pulling out of hair from its follicles. By physical removal, hair takes longer to grow back. Also repeated pulling away of hair from follicle can cause it to be damaged.
Plucking:
Plucking of hair with a pair of tweezers is an efficient way to remove hair- but can be time consuming. Stray facial hair and eye brows can be easily controlled with a pair of tweezers- so it doesn’t suit areas like legs.
Waxing:
It is useful to get rid of more amounts of hair at once. Wax is heated and applied on the skin in direction of hair growth. The hair is embedded in the wax as wax cools. A strip of cloth is applied to the wax, which is quickly pulled away in opposite direction of hair growth, taking away hair.
When using hot wax, be careful lest you burn your skin. There may be side effects like torn skin, red bumps, discoloration, infection etc. Nowadays there are hair removal strips coated with wax which are ready to use and avoid any heat.
Depilatories:
They use a chemical termed as thioglycolate combined with calcium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide, which melts away the hair. Thioglycolate damages disulfide bonds that are chemical bonds which hold hair cells and skin together. It is highly effective and can irritate the skin since chemical ingredients can melt away skin cells.
Depilatory creams are applied to the area with unwanted hair and left aside for 3 to 15 minutes. Within this time, chemical melts the hair and forms a substance in jelly form which may be washed off or wiped, after suitable time interval.
Electrolysis:
It is a method in which a fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle and electric current is applied to the root of the follicle. In this process, the hair root is actually burnt which prevents it to produce more hair. You need to treat every hair follicle separately and it takes several treatments to destroy a follicle completely.
Most lasers used for hair removal target melanin and are designed to burn structures containing melanin. More damage is caused when there is more melanin. Laser hair removal best suits light skinned people with dark hair. Permanent laser hair removal in Delhi helps in getting rid of unwanted hair for a long duration.
These are the main methods to get rid of unwanted hair.
